An Enjoyable Lesson in Metamorphosis

Teaching children about life cycles is the perfect way to help them connect with nature and understand the world around them. Growing butterflies helps them learn about one of the most famous examples of complete metamorphosis. Hungry caterpillars will undergo a rapid transformation and finally emerge as captivating butterflies with completely different features. With this kit, kids can observe all the changes take place in front of them and get a hands-on experience.

This kit is a favorite among children for science projects as well. They can check and report on the progress of their caterpillars each day. They’ll be able to tell between the different stages of a butterfly’s life cycle. Homeschooling parents can include this kit in their butterfly lesson plan. Growing butterflies teaches children how to handle responsibility as well.

Simplest Way to Raise Butterflies

Growing butterflies with this kit is a fun DIY project. Even if you haven’t raised critters before, you can easily grow butterflies with the help of this kit. Using the included supplies you’ll be able to provide the best conditions for your caterpillars. To guide you through the process we’ve provided easy, step-by-step instructions with the kit. You’ll breeze through the growing period and soon get fully-grown, pretty painted ladies.

You can watch your caterpillars transform into butterflies through secure, see-through habitats. All our habitats are butterfly-friendly, safe for children, and completely reusable. You can also use them to keep and raise other small bugs.

Relish the Company of Your Little Guests

Butterflies live a short life. Significant changes happen in them quickly as they transform from caterpillars to butterflies. Your caterpillars will take about 3 weeks to grow into butterflies. You can keep the fully-grown butterflies in the habitat for a few days.

While they are with you, you can feed them slices of freshly cut fruit or sugar water. You can continue to observe their unique behavior – they taste with their feet and drink with their tube-like mouth! After you’ve enjoyed their companionship, you can release them outside into the lap of nature when the temperature is above 50°F.

I gave this to my grand daughters, ages 4 and 6. They studied about butterflies. They watched the caterpillars turn into chrysalis, then had 10 butterflies. They were delighted !! Great learning experience.

5 out of 5 Jeff Jochims – August 24, 2017 came much faster than anticipated….all worked well. Released 6 new butterflies couple weeks later. 4 out of 5 Jennifer Robinson – August 24, 2017

Actually only 4 out of the 6 caterpillars became butterflies. Two died. Other than that the kit was Wonderful.

Our kit had an extra caterpillar for 6 caterpillars. So far they are all healthy and growing and eating. We may have to order a second habitat if it’s too cold to release them so they’re not crowded, but all in all this is a great and fun kit.

5 out of 5 Tracy Shelley – August 24, 2017 Only had 4 live to start, ended up with 2 butterflies. Interesting. Kept my grand daughter watching. 5 out of 5 Happymom82 – August 24, 2017

Just received and it is exactly as described. Love it and love the fact the live caterpillars came with it unlike others we have to mail off and can only get during certain times of the year this comes with everything you need!

Bought this for my 83 yr. old mom and she loves it. Every time we find a caterpillar she brings it in to hatch out. 3 of the 5 painted ladies survived.

Big hit with the 3 and 4 year old… Though I think age 5 would understand and appreciate more. All ages including adults in our family enjoyed watching the process of the butterflies

This was a great treasure. I had to buy two sets but well worth it. I didn’t have to wait for the caterpillars to come in and the delivery was almost instant. the price was awesome. They did better than expected. Long life!
My daughter used them for her science fair project, placed top 10 and is now going to regionals for the science fair.

Everything worked as planned all caterpillars successfully transformed into butterflies. We had to keep them inside for most of there butterfly life because it was too cold to release them. If you or your kids are into bugs this is a must. The transformation is pretty amazing. Mother Nature is Amazing!!

This was a really great project- I would recommend doing your homework on the butterflies and their lifespan first- ours lived their whole 2 wks as butterflies in the netted cage because I didn’t realize they were only dormant for a short period of time. 6 of 6 received became butterflies- it was easy and fun to use this kit to teach my children about metamorphosis.

My toddler loved this! I did have one caterpillar that was very little and delayed compared to the others. I made the mistake of adding him to the mesh tent with the cacoons and he ate one of them.
